Latin Name: Phaseolus vulgaris

Days to Maturity: 90

Description:

A well loved Appalachian variety of pole bean that can be eaten green as a snap bean with incredible smooth, nutty flavor; or harvested as a dried bean and eaten in stews all winter long. The ‘greasy’ name comes from the bean pod’s uniquely smooth texture. 90 days to maturity as a dry bean. It loves the Southern Oregon heat in summer when other pole beans wither, and can be planted as late as June. Prolific. Requires trellising.

    • Hi Joyce, this variety is great picked fresh as a green bean and also great used as a dry bean. So yes, pod and bean together at the green stage are great. Also easy to harvest for dry beans.
