Growing Practices:

Latin Name: Raphanus sativus

Days to Maturity: 70+

Description:

This is a radish grex I have been growing for a few years now. Each year I add different radishes and am aiming for more color. Most tend towards daikon type or storage, which I like. They're very easy to grow and some of my favorite winter vegetables for soups. They can also be used for kraut, eaten raw or dried for later use.

Story of this Seed:

Seed started with a tillage daikon some years back. I added cherry types, black radishes, and other random varieties, and now am looking to increase color and make more selections toward daikon. I contribute seeds from this mix to Going to Seed each year for their radish mix.

Growing Tips:

These are easy to grow and benefit from direct seeding. As the mix tends towards daikon, they grow best when each plant ends up 6in to 1ft apart. Bigger spacing allows for bigger roots. But close plantings will work too. Earlier maturing ones can be harvested before later maturing ones, allowing for extended harvest.
I start planting these in mid-August and then they can be planted all through fall and winter until cool weather stops. In colder climates, they may not be winter hardy.
