Ask a Question About Extra Long Handled Dipper Gourd

  • Answer this question

On an extra long handled dipper gourd how high should the trellis be to allow for the growth of the vine and the drop of the gourd. I will be using 4x4 posts do I need to wrap in chicken wire or will the vine attach to the wooden post? Thanks, Sharon

    • You'll want to use something in addition to the 4x4 posts for the vines to climb on. Wire fence or cattle panel could be better than chicken wire but chicken wire would probably work. Go for at least six feet tall. I really like using cattle panels (which are about 15 feet long) turned into arches. They need to be well supported by posts or T-posts on all four corners. -Edmund for CWSG

    • It is an open pollinated variety and will come true to type if you save the seeds. Also, it is a true Lagenaria siceraria gourd. Not sure which question you were asking so I answered both. -Edmund
