Shattah-(Capsicum annuum)- This pepper is named after a condiment that is famous throughout the Mideast countries. Although other peppers are also used to make this condiment like Aleppo for example. But this pepper is known for being one of the most preferred and that is why it is called the Shattah pepper. Depending on when it is harvested it can range from very mild to having a Cayenne level of heat. Shattah sauce or paste is made by combining this pepper with garlic, olive oil and sea salt. However depending on the region it is used you may find variations in the recipe. also it is made in different thicknesses for different dishes. It is used with Hummus, sandwiches, meats, falafel and a dipping condiment. The Shattah peppers are conical in shape and grow pointing up. They resemble a small Aleppo pepper except they taper off more at the end to a point. The Shattah chiles ripen from green to red and produce many peppers. The plants are squat and bushy and can be grow in pots on a patio. The Shattah chile plants grow just over 2 feet tall.
