We strive for excellent seed quality through careful isolation and rogueing of off-type plants, frequent harvests to prevent rain damage, and best practices for drying and storage. All seeds are tested for germination and extra seeds are included to account for percentage below 100%.

We follow organic growing practices on our farm and minimize inputs of organically-acceptable sprays. We use biological and cultural controls as much as possible and treat wildlife with respect.

I've been saving seeds since I fell in love with gardening as a teenager. My interests led to studying horticulture and then plant breeding at the University of Georgia. Starting Sylvan Roots enabled me to perform independent plant breeding while stewarding and sharing numerous seeds and rare vegetables. We do wholesale contracts with Southern Exposure Seed Exchange and also sell on Etsy marketplace.

Regional adaption is one of the most important characteristics of a plant variety and we allow natural selection to help eliminate plants and varieties that perform poorly. We select for pest and disease resistance, flavor, and productivity in all the crops we grow.
