Growing Practices: No Pesticides No Herbicides No Fungicides No Synthetic Fertilizers

Latin Name: Solanum lycopersicum

Days to Maturity: 72

Description:

Medium red paste tomatoes that were the most productive variety in Living Energy Farm’s 2014 tomato trial (both in terms of total yield and marketable yield). Really good flavor, and good for making sauce. Edmund Frost grows it every year at Twin Oaks Seed Farm as the main paste tomato for canning and sauce. Cracking is sometimes an issue, but we have made really notable progress by selecting for less cracking. This variety was bred in Germany by Harmut Spiel, as part of a Biodynamic vegetable breeding initiative. We got seedstock from Adaptive Seeds of Sweet Home, Oregon. Large, indeterminate plants. 300 seeds/g. Grown by Twin Oaks Seed Farm.

Ask a Question About Quadro Paste Tomato - Certified Organic

  • Answer this question

How do you compare it's taste to other common paste tomatoes , for making paste and for fresh eating? Thanks

    • Its good for fresh eating - a good bit better than San Marzano paste tomato in my opinion. Texture is not mealy. It makes a flavorful sauce and is reasonably low moisture, though perhaps moisture is slightly higher than San Marzano. Edmund for CWSG

Have you trialed it in greenhouse conditions? Did you notice any foliar diseases?

    • I haven't had any focus on tomato greenhouse growing as yet, including quadro. If you try it I would be quite interested to hear your assessment. Foliar diseases in the field have just been some early blight and septoria, but these develop slower than usual. Thanks, Edmund

Have you noticed any resistance to (or resilience in the face of) Root Knot Nematodes? (ANY spring to summer tomato we grow here in nematode & pathogen infested Florida absolutely needs RKN resistance or tolerance). Thank you.

    • I haven't because we don't have a nemitode problem here. Its something I want to start getting a better sense of though, with help from growers in areas that do have Root Knot Nematodes. - Edmund
