Ask a Question About Molokhia (Egyptian spinach)

  • Answer this question

In the photo the Molokhia seems like it is rather tall and bushy. How tall and wide does it get? Does it handle being trimmed-back (to create some space) well?

    • It can get about 4 feet tall and about 3 feet wide. It is harvested by cutting back repeatedly throughout the summer, so you can just cut on the side where you want to make more space. The more you cut it, the thicker it gets.

I would like to know how many years seeds remain viable

    • There appears to be little research on this topic, but viability will be reduced each year. Viability is prolonged when seed is stored in cool, dry conditions.
In reality, there's little reason to store the seeds for a long period of time, since plentiful fresh seed is produced each year.
